Wine: 2002 Caymus Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon
Winery:
Caymus
California
Very reduced, ultrarich and plush, with a velvety texture and gobs
of saturated currant, plum and black cherry fruit. Truly a tour de force barrel
sample, right down to the roasted nut finish.

Wine: 2001 Tor Cabernet Sauvignon Clone 4
Winery: Tor
Rutherford, Napa, North Coast, California, USA
Cabernet Sauvignon (a dry red
table wine)
I thought the Pomerol-like succulence, hedonistic forwardness, and gorgeously
proportioned, seamless 2001 Tor Cabernet Sauvignon Clone 4 to be even better
than the West Block, although it probably will not be as long lived. It possesses
plenty of tannin, but it is barely noticeable. A deep ruby/purple color is followed
by a sumptuous perfume of melted licorice, black cherry liqueur, cedar, and spice
box. Intense, impeccably well-balanced, and pure, it will benefit from 1-2 years
of cellaring, and keep for 12-15.

Wine: 2001 Feudi di San Gregorio
Serpico IGT
Winery: Feudi di San Gregorio
Campania, Italy
Proprietary Blend (a dry red table wine)
The 2001 Serpico, impenetrable and inky, staggeringly rich in both aroma and
flavor, offers ultra-ripe but perfectly fresh berry fruit, cloves, cinnamon,
and chocolate, and mouth-coating, deep-pile tactile sensations which combine
iron power and a enveloping, voluptuous texture, infinitely deep and long. I
would be amazed if this wine did not last thirty years. Drink between 2004-2034.

Wine: 1999 La Poderina Brunello di Montalcino
Winery: La Poderina
Italy
Incredible richness to this red, with layers of blackberry, licorice and treacle
tart on the nose and palate. Full-bodied, with loads of silky tannins and a long,
long finish. Seductive stuff?? even better than 1997.
